1.

Define resistivity. State its SI unit. On what factors resistivity depends? Write resistivity range for metals and insulators.

Answer»

Resistivity (ρ): It can be defined as the resistance of a conducting material per unit length with unit area of cross- section.

Its SI unit is ohm-metre (Ωm).

The resistivity of a material depends on its nature and the temperature of the conductor, but not on its shape and size.

Range of resistivity for metals = 10-8 – 10-6 Ωm

For insulators = 1012 - 1020 Ωm
