1.

Define the term ‘conductivity’ of a metallic wire. Write its SI unit.

Answer»

Definition and SI unit of conductivity

The conductivity of a material equals the reciprocal of the resistance of its wire of unit length and unit area of cross section.

Alternatively :

The conductivity (σ) of a material is the reciprocal of its resistivity (ρ)]

(Also accept σ = 1/ρ)

Its SI unit is

 (1/ohm-metre)/ohm-1m-1/(mhom-1)/siemen m-1

Detailed Answer :

Conductivity of a metallic wire is reciprocal to its resistivity i.e σ = 1/ρ and it is measured in Ω-1m-1 or  mho.m-1
