Transpiration: The evaporation of excess water from the stomata present in leaves of plants is called transpiration. 

Functions: 

(i) important for upward movement of water in plants. 

(ii) helps in regulating temperature of plant. 

(iii) helps in movement of xylem sap, which also increases the absorption of minerals nutrients by the roots from the soil.
