Answer» Answer: Its a big answer, please LOOK at the explanation :) Explanation: Consider a small forest area, where you have animals, insects, plants and BIRDS living together. If deforestation occurs, the organisms residing in that particular area (called their habitat ) will be displaced, i.e they will be forced to move from their habitat. In each habitat, there exists an eco-system - A link between various organisms and processes that OCCUR in a habitat. By destroying the habitat, not only do we destroy the organisms, but we destroy this very link. For ex: If all snakes die, then the NUMBER of rats will drastically increase, which will reduce the food for other rodents and organisms which feed on the same kind of food. This way the bio-diversity is affected Cutting of trees and clearing of vegetation affects soil retention and the water cycle in that particular area. Without trees there will be no temperature moderation which will result in extreme temperature situations. No trees will also affect the wind flow. Therefore deforestation has debilitating effects on the environment. How to avoid : Utilize the current space available better, build multistoryed structures instead of multiple single houses. Practice rooftop farming or garden farming (to meet one's personal needs). Allow the current farm land to regenerate its fertility by following alternate cropping systems or just leaving the field empty for a season or two |
