Density of ice is rho and thatof water is sigma .What will be from following decrease in volume when a mass M of ice melts ?

Answer»

`(M)/(sigma-RHO)`
`(sigma-rho)/(M)`
`M[(1)/(rho)-(1)/(sigma)]`
`(1)/(M)[(1)/(rho)-(1)/(sigma)]`

Solution :VOLUME of ICE `V_(1)=(M)/(rho)`
Volume of water `V_(2)=(M)/(sigma)`
If `V_(1)gtV_(2)` , volume decreases for MELTING of ice .
DECREASE in volume `=V_(1)-V_(2)=(M)/(rho)=(M)/(sigma)`
`=M[(1)/(rho)-(1)/(sigma)]`
