1.

Derive Charles’s law on the basis of kinetic theory of gases.

Answer»

According to kinetic theory of gases, pressure of a gas,

\(P=\frac{1}{3}.ρv^2\)

\(=\frac{1}{3}\frac{M}{V}v^2\)

\(P=\frac{1}{3}.\frac{M}{V}v^2\)

For a given mass of a gas at constant pressure P, we have

V ∝ v2

According to kinetic theory,

V2 ∝ T

so, V ∝ T

This proves Charles’s law.
