Maniram borbandar baurauh popularly known as maniran dewan was a famous PERSONALITY and a freedom fighter of Assam. Maniram Dewan's role was important as an advisor, leader,and organizer of the revolt of 1857.

When moffat mill the chief justice of calcutta high court came to visit assam in 1853 ,maniram dewan put down the miseries of the people of Assam and request to reinstate kanderpeswar SINGHA on the royal thorn.but his request was put down.
Dewan went to Calcutta to meet the governor general for this propose.At that time SEPOY mutiny was break out at meerut in 1857 ,maniram Dewan's role was that he was the first person to realize that a same kind of revolt is necessary in Assam.
Maniram Dewan wrote scert LETTER conspiring against the British rule and sent them to Assam.
He took the leadership for bringing arms and AMMUNITION for the revolt.
Finally British government got the New of conspiracy and dewan was arrested and on 26 February 1958 ,under the guilt of treason,Maniram Dewan and Pyali Baruah were hanged openly in jorhat.
