Answer» That answer lies in the differences between the colonization of the two areas. The colonization of the Americas involved a greater transfer of people, both rich and poor, from Europe. Latin America was the land of opportunity for those who has it bad in Europe. That was thanks to large reserves of untouched silver found in south america (and gold in the north), and due to a comparatively smaller population of indigenous people. The colonization of the Indian subcontinent, on the other hand meant that the only British people we Indians came in contact with were the aristocrats, or people who saw a chance to join the community of aristocrats. Hence, we as Indians saw far more exposure to cricket as opposed to football. We took this sport and made it our own. But that was as far as the sport would spread. The only other nations where cricket is widely played and followed are the former colonies ofA) South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. |
