The most important of these are nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour.\xa0Dead space gas is not identical to inspired gas. It is warmed and humidified. Mixed\xa0expired air\xa0is somewhere in composition between\xa0alveolar\xa0gas and room\xa0air, so its\xa0oxygen\xa0level is higher\xa0than alveolar\xa0gas and its CO2 lower.
