Microbes are MAINLY self sufficient cells, whereas separated animal cells are not generally INDEPENDENT from their normal complete organism. Animal cells require food in a form that particular cell can use, air, environment and in most cases MOVEMENT. Additionally, animal cells require the elimination of WASTE MATERIALS and exchange of gases. If you look at commercial bioreactors you will see the complex input and output controls and processes. Much more complex than microbial cultures.
