Difference between speed and velocity |
| Answer» Speed is a scalar quantity. It has only magnitude.Velocity is a vector quantity . It has magnitude and direction.Example : If a man covers a distance of 5 kms from point A to B in one hour and returns from B to A in 3 hours then,Average Speed = Total distance / total time = 5+5/1+3 = 10/4 = 2.5 km/hAverage Velocity will be zero because net displacement of the man is ZERO , as he has started from A returned back to A. | |
