Differentiate virus , viroid and prion |
|
Answer» Virus - They are a nucleoprotein particle, nucleic acid can be either RNA or DNA. They contain capsid covering .ie. a protein LAYER FOUND around the nucleus. They lack a true cell membrane. They are large-sized. They infect all types of organisms. VIROIDS - are an infectious RNA particle. They are devoid of any capsid caoting. They contain only RNA. They are of SMALL size. They infect only plants. PRIONS - They are proteinaceous infective particles. They do no contain any nucleic acid. They generally cause an infected individual's DNA to START producing an altered form of a protein that they would normally produce. Their protein is called a prion protein (PrP). They cause disease by infecting this protein in misfolded forms. Hope this helps you.
