1.

Direction: Each question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given in the statement is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose the best possible answer.Two trains are travelling in opposite direction to each other. What will be the distance (in km) just before 69 minutes of meeting each other?Statement I. Initially, the distance between the trains is 219 km.Statement II. The speeds of two trains are 29 m/s and 36 m/s respectively.1. The statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question but, statement II alone is not sufficient.2. The statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question but, statement I alone is not sufficient.3. Both the statements I and II together are needed to answer the question.4. Either statement I alone or statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.5. Neither statement I nor statement II is sufficient to answer the question.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : The statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question but, statement I alone is not sufficient.

Concept Used:

When 2 trains run in opposite direction, then

Relative speed is Sum of speeds of 2 trains.

Formula Used:

Speed = Distance/Time

1 minute = 60 seconds

Calculations:

Statement I.

Distance between the two trains is given. No other relation is there

So, Statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question

Statement II.

Relative speed = (29 + 36) m/s = 65 m/s

Distance = 65 × 69 × 60 = 269100 m = 269.1 km

⇒ Just before 69 minutes the trains will be 269.1 km apart.

⇒ Statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

 The statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question but, statement I alone is not sufficient.
