Answer» (b) Catalytic converters are devices that are fitted into automobiles for reducing the emission of genes. These have expensive metals (platinum-palladium and rhodium) as catalysis. As the exhaust passes through the catalytic converters, unburnt hydrocarbons are converted into `CO_(2) " and "H_(2)O` and carbon monoxide and nitric oxide are changed to `CO_(2) " and "N_(2)` respectively. (c) UV-B are short wavelength harmful radiations that penetrate through the ozone hole to strike the earth. On earth, these can effect human beings and other animals by causing. (i) skin cancer, (ii) Blindness and increased incidence of cataract in eyes, and (iii) malfunctioning of the immune system. |
