Discuss briefly the similarities between Be and AI. |
|
Answer» Solution :(i)nBeryllium and aluminiem have same electrnegativily VALUES. (ii) Their changesper unit are Is closer. (iii) `BeCI_(2)` and `AICI_(3)` forms dimeric structure. Both are soluble in organic solvents and are strong Lewis acids. (iv) `Be(OH)_(2)` and `AI(OH)_(3)` dissolves in EXCESS alkali to give beryllate icon `[Be(OH)_(4)]^(2)` and alumianteion `[AI(OH)_(4)]`, respectvely. (v) Be and AI ions have stromg TENDECY to form complexes. `BeF_(4)^(2)` and `AIF_(6)^(3)`. (VI) Both `Be(OH)_(2)` and `AI(OH)_(3)` areamphoteric in nature. (VII) Both beryllium and aluminium are rendred passive by nitric acid. |
