Discuss the development of aggressive nationalism among Muslims. |
Answer» Solution :(i) In 1857, the British rule in India was shaken by the mass uprising in which Muslim and Hindus participated hand in hand . However, from 1870 onwards, the Muslim leaders began to think that after the British leaving India,Muslim would be reduced to inferior STATUS. (ii) They claimed that democracy in India will be the rule of Hindus. The most prominent among such leaders was SIR Syed Ahmed Khan, founder of Aligarh Muslim University. (iii)This led to the growth of Muslim nationalism on communal lines. Muslim League was formed in 1906. (iv)It claimed to be sole CUSTODIAN of the Muslim interest and their representative. (v) They STARTED demanding separate electorates. Finally, it ended in demand for a separate nation called Pakistan. (vi)British Government also followed the policy of divide and rule. (VII ) As a result of which Muslim League was strengthened and India had to be divided finally . |
