The steam engine and the factory system has a profound effect in British towns and villages. Work migrated from the homes to the factory floors. Work became regimented and disciplined.

Networks of CANALS were created due to the establishment of major factory centres. Life in the towns and villages experienced improved living standards. People were able to consume goods and services that were previously UNAVAILABLE to them.

Labourers in factories however continued to suffer under bad and dangerous working conditions.

The factory system replaced the cottage system in both countries.The factory system relied mainly on machines instead of human labour to PRODUCE goods.

Capitalism is an economic system that is  based upon private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit.

Industrialization brought about the rise of capitalism. Owners of factories  and others who controlled the means of production  became immensely rich and had more capital to invest  industry and technology.

  • Urbanization

Industrialization RESULTED in urbanization. Millions of people travelled from rural areas to towns in search of employment. Industrialization ALSO resulted in doubling of the population in Britain.

  • Exploitation of the Working Class

The working class were exploited during the Industrial revolution in both India and Britain. Their skills rapidly deteriorated and their living standards declined tremendously.
