  • Functions of welfare state in the contemporary era was reduced from welfare state to a minimalist state due to introduction of globalization.
  •  before globalizations the state works for the economic and social welfare of the people like promote equality, protect domestic producers, ensure good economic conditions by providing huge subsidies and promote the socially and economically backward people.
  •  but in the contemporary era, the state reduced its role to maintenance of law and order and security of the people. 
  • It has now more tilted towards attracting MNC's and foreign direct investment (e.g. SEZ- special economic zones made ignoring labour laws) . now the prices are decided by the market forces.
  • thus a reduced role of government is seen in the contemporary era and policies made are generally have economic benefits rather than welfare of people.
