Indian society is a male-dominated society. The guitar symbolises a very special quality of a woman. Playing the guitar sweetly is suggestive of the sweetness of her character. The two suitors represent the general convictions and impressions of our society regarding women. They do not care whether she has a guitar or she plays it or not. This implies that they have no respect for her qualities. They do not fall in love with her on account of her talents. The story stresses the fact that a woman’s whole existence along with her talents should be acknowledged. In our society, a talented woman is made into a housewife. People express surprise when they see a woman in dignified employment. They don’t think that a woman can also do all the things that a man thinks to be meant only for him.

भारतीय समाज पुरुष-प्रधान समाज है। गिटार किसी महिला के अतिविशिष्ट गुण का प्रतीक है। गिटार पर मधुर संगीत बजाना उसके चरित्र की मधुरता का द्योतक है। दोनों प्रणयार्थी महिलाओं के सम्बन्ध में हमारे समाज की आम धारणा और विचारों के प्रतीक हैं। उन्हें इस बात की परवाह नहीं कि उसके पास गिटार है या नहीं अथवा वह इसे बजाती है या नहीं। इसका आशय यह है कि उनमें उसके गुणों के प्रति कोई आदर भाव नहीं है। उन्हें उससे उसकी प्रतिभा के कारण प्यार नहीं है। कहानी इस बात पर बल देती है कि किसी महिला का सम्पूर्ण अस्तित्व उसकी प्रतिभा के साथ स्वीकार किया जाना चाहिए। हमारे समाज में एक प्रतिभाशाली महिला को घरेलू महिला बना दिया जाता है। जब लोग किसी महिला को गरिमामयी पद पर देखते हैं तो आश्चर्य व्यक्त करते हैं। वे यह नहीं सोचते हैं कि एक महिला वह सभी काम कर सकती है जिनके लिए आदमी सोचता है कि ये केवल उसके करने के लिए ही हैं।
