1.

Distinguish between 1-bromocyclohexane and 1-iodocyclohexane.

Answer»

Answer:

n Hexyl bromine is a halo alkane . therefore it shows higher reactivity TOWARDS nucleophilic substitution than bromobenzene which is a haloarene

On heating with aqueous KOH it FORMS KBr and n Hexyl alcohol

CH3 (CH2)4 CH-Br + KOH----> CH3 (CH2)4 CH-OH +KBr

The reaction mixture on acidification with dilute nitric acid followed by treatment with silver NITRATE produces a yellow precipitate of silver bromide

KBr + AgNO3---->AgBr +KNO3

In contrast bromobenzene doesnot undergo hydrolysis with aq KOH

Bromobenzene + KOH --->No reaction

Therefore on treating the reaction mixture with dilute nitric acid followed by silver nitrate does not PRODUCE a yellow precipitate
