Answer» 1. A sample of water said to be hard water if it does not give lather with soap. Heavy water is the oxide of deuterium (D2O). 2. Temporary hardness is due to the presence of bicarbonate of calcium or magnesium. It can be removed by boiling. Permanent hardness is due to the presence of chlorides and sulphates of calcium and magnesium. It is not removed by boiling. |
