Answer» 1. (i) Benzyl amine being a primary amine will form an unstable diazonium salt which decomposes to benzyl alcohol and nitrogen gas. Aniline forms a stable diazonium salt with acidic sodium nitrite which further reacts with napthol to give a red dye.(ii) Methylamine and dimethylamine can easily be distinguished by carbylamine test.Carbylamine test: Aliphatic and aromatic primary amines on heating with chloroform (CHCl3) and ethanolic potassium hydroxide (KOH/ETOH)form isocyanides or carbylamines. Methylamine, being an aliphatic primary amine, gives a positive carbylamine test, but dimethyl amine, being a secondary amine does not. 2. A = CH3.CH2.CH2.NH2 B = CH3CH2CH2OH + H2O + N2 |
