1.

Do `(CH_(3))_(3)N` and `(Me_(3)Si)_(3)` have similar structure ? Justify your answer .

Answer» `(CH_(3))_(3) N` is pyramidal involving `sp^(3)`-hybridization of N atom. Nitrogen in `(Me_(3)Si)_(3)N` is, however, `sp^(2)`-hybridized. The reason being that the p-orbital of N containing the lone pair of electrons overlop with a vacant d-orbital of silicon. As a result of this `ppi-dpi` back bonding, `(Me_(3)Si)_(3)N` is planar. Thus, `(CH_(3))_(3)N` and `(Me_(3)Si)_(3) N` are not isostructural . For structure.
