| Answer» Perhaps the most common expressions of\xa0prejudice\xa0and stereotyping are manifested in verbal\xa0communication, including casual conversation and the mass media. But, until recent years, little empirical work has examined how stereotypic beliefs and\xa0prejudiced\xa0attitudes are manifested in everyday\xa0communication.\xa0Prejudice makes the victim feel less than fully human. When people are undervalued by others, their\xa0self-esteem suffers and they stop trying to improve themselves. Prejudice can often lead to bullying and other forms of discrimination.\xa0People\xa0communicate\xa0their\xa0prejudiced\xa0attitudes and stereotypic beliefs in numerous ways. Variations in word choice or phrasing can betray simplistic, negative, or homogeneous views of outgroups. | |
