I remember one story. In order to protect good people, Lord Krishna killed the evil king, Shishupal, Krishna was left with a bleeding finger after the battle. Draupadi torn off a strip of cloth from her sari and tied it around Krishna’s wrist to stop the oozing out of the blood. Lord Krishna realising her affection and concern for him, declared himself bound by her sisterly love. He promised to repay this debt to Draupadi whenever she asked for it.

Later on, when Pandavas lost Draupadi to Kaurvas in the game of dice and Kauravas tried to strip her naked, she prayed to Krishna for help. Krishna stood up to the occasion and divinely elongated her saree so much that the Kauravas were tired of pulling it and gave up. This story clearly brings out a sister’s concern for her brother as also a brother’s timely help to his sister.

मुझे एक कहानी याद है। सज्जन लोगों की रक्षा करने के लिए कृष्ण ने शिशुपाल नामक दुष्ट राजा को मारा था। युद्ध के बाद कृष्ण की अंगुली से रक्त बहने लगा । द्रोपदी ने अपनी साड़ी से कपड़े की एक पट्टी फाड़ी तथा इसे कृष्ण की कलाई पर बाँध दिया ताकि रक्त को निकलने से रोका जा सके। भगवान कृष्ण ने उनके प्रति द्रोपदी के स्नेह एवं चिन्ता को महसूस करते हुए स्वयं को उसके बहिन वाले प्रेम से बंध जाने की घोषणा की। उन्होंने वादा किया कि वह इस कर्ज को जब भी द्रोपदी को आवश्यकता होगी, चुकाएंगे।

बाद में जब पांडवों ने जुए के खेल में द्रोपदी को खो दिया और उस पर कौरवों का अधिकार हो गया, तब कौरवों ने उसके कपड़े उतारकर उसे नग्न करने का प्रयास किया। द्रोपदी ने मदद के लिए कृष्ण से प्रार्थना की। कृष्ण ने अवसर के अनुरूप काम किया तथा उन्होंने द्रोपदी की साड़ी को दैविक तरीके से इतना लम्बा कर दिया कि कौरव इसे खींच-खींच कर थक गए। तथा उन्होंने प्रयास छोड़ दिया। यह कहानी भाई के लिए एक बहिन की चिन्ता तथा भाई द्वारा संकटकाल में बहिन की समय पर की गयी मदद को स्पष्ट रूप से व्यक्त करती है।
