A socialite is one who is much familiar with very affluent and fashionable society and always moves about fashionable parties. Except that Mrs Malik owned a plot in a fashionable, well-to-do colony, we do not find any socialite tendency in this hardworking lady who stands in the sun and rain from morning to evening, supervising the work of construction of her house. At times she would give a hand to the masons and others. She ensured that there was no wastage of material. Although she had learnt ballroom dancing and had fine tastes, Mrs Malik was just an average laborious lady of middle-class background. 

उच्चवर्गीय रईस महिला, जिसे Socialite कहा जा सकता है, वह होती है जिसका परिवार काफी सम्पन्न एवं सम्भ्रान्त हो, जिनकी पैठ भी ऐसे ही लोगों के समाज में हो तथा जिनका नित्य फैशनेबल पार्टियों में आना-जाना हो । श्रीमती मलिक का भूखण्ड एक फैशनेबल कॉलोनी में अवश्य था किन्तु उनके क्रियाकलाप में कहीं कोई Socialite की प्रवृत्ति हमें नहीं मिलती। 

प्रातः से संध्या तक धूप हो या वर्षा हो रही हो, श्रीमती मलिक को अपने मकान के निर्माणस्थल पर काम की देखभाल करते देखा जा सकता थ । कभी-कभी तो वह राजमिस्त्रियों व अन्य कारीगरों के कार्य में भी उनको मदद करती थीं। वह यह भी सुनिश्चित कर लेती थीं कि कहीं कोई सामग्री बर्बाद तो नहीं हो रही है। उन्होंने बॉल-नृत्य तो सीखा था, तथा उनकी रुचियाँ परिष्कृत थीं, किन्तु कुल मिलाकर हम उन्हें एक औसत मध्यमवर्गीय पृष्ठभूमि की परिश्रमी महिला के रूप में ही देखते हैं।
