Different substances are liquids at different temperatures depending on their INTERMOLECULAR forces. For example, liquid Nitrogen is extremely cold because Nitrogen tends toward a GASEOUS state at STP (standard temperature & pressure, or ‘ROOM temperature’); it must be chilled before the molecules lose enough energy to not fly away (switching from a gas to a liquid). On the other hand, something such as IRON must be superheated to reach a liquid state because the attraction between each atom is very strong at STP.
