Commutator:

It is a cylindrical member made of highly conductive copper and made of a large number of segments insulted from each other by means of thin mica sheets. Each segment is connected to the armature conductors. Field windings or field coils: These are made of thick copper wires in the form of coils and used to electro magnetize the poles when current is passed through them. So, the magnetic field of the starter motor is provided by field windings and pole shoes.
