Explain factors affecting equilibria. |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :Factors affecting equilibrium are: A chemical reaction at equilibrium will maintain its equilibrium concentrations indefinitely unless it is disturbed. Such disturbances (also called constraints or stresses) include a change in TEMPERATURE, a change in concentration of a reactant or product, and a change in pressure within the reacting mixture. The effect of temperature and pressure on the position of equilibrium of a reversible reaction can be calculated quantitatively. However, the effect of concentration, temperature and pressure can be predicted qualitatively with the help of a generalisation proposed by Le-Chatelier, a French chemist in 1884. This PRINCIPLE is based fundametanlly on the SECOND LAW of thermodynamics. |
