Explain (i) Oxbow lakes (ii) Meanders |
|
Answer» (i) An OXBOW lake is a U-shaped lake formed when a wide meander of river is cut off in its lower course. (ii) A meander is a loop made by a river in its lower course.Explanation:Meanders are formed in the lower course when the river, loaded with debris, becomes very slow. The river swings from SIDE to side as it flows over a level TRACT, FORMING winding sections or LOOPS. Continuous erosion on the concave side and deposition on the convex side can cut a loop from the main river and lead to the formation of an oxbow lake. |
