▪All living organisms require energy to carry out various life processes . like nutrition, transport, excretion, REPRODUCTION, etc.)

▪The oxygen needed for the oxidation comes from the air that we inhale ( breathe in ).

▪This oxygen is then transported to all the body parts and finally, to every cell .

▪Thus, the process in which food is broken down to release energy is called respiration .

▪During respiration, carbon dioxide and water are RELEASED as waste- products .

▪The two basic processes of respiration are : external respiration and internal respiration .

▪The external respiration is also known as breathing .

▪It involves breathing in a rich in oxygen ( inhalation ) and breaking out air rich in carbon dioxide ( exhalation ) .
