Explain specific density or relative density of substance. |
|
Answer» Solution :The RELATIVE DENSITY of a substance is the ratio of its density to the density of water at `46(@)C`. Relative density `=("Density of substance")/("Density of water at "4^(@)C "TEMPERATURE")` For example : Density of aluminium is `2.7xx10^(3)kgm^(-3)`. Density of water at `4^(@)C` temperature is `10^(3)kg//m^(3)`. HENCE relative density of aluminium is 2.7. Relative density is positive , scalar and demensionless physical quantity. (Density of substance =Relative density `xx` density of water at `4^(@)C` temperature) The densities of some common fluids are displayed below in table.
