Explain the bond formation in SF_(4)" and "C Cl_(4) using hybridisation concept. C Cl_(4) |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :`C Cl_(4)` : It is not NECESSARY to invoke hybridisation especially in `C Cl_(4)` .It must be invoked for all tetrahedral bonds of carbon and other atoms. The electronic configuration of an isolated carbon atom in its ground state is `1s^(2)2s^(2) 2p^(2) C Cl_(4)`is a tetrahedral molecule COMPRISING of four single bonds know as `sigma` bonds between the carbon atom and thechlorine atoms. In this type of bonding the 2s orbital and THREE 2p orbitals of carbon atoms are mixed to produce four identical orbital is a PROCESS known as `sp^(3)` hybridisation .
