Answer» Soap has hydrocarbon part which is hydrophobic and attract dirt, grease, oil, etc. Whereas hydrophobic part – CooNa attracts water which takes away oil, dirt, and grease. Soaps do not work in hard water because Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions present in hard water.
