Answer» Major concern of India’s foreign policy in the past cold war period is disarmament and arms race in the world. As a leader of NAM, India established beyond doubt that arms race is at the expense of human development. Expenditure on arms and ammunitions depletes and distorts economic progress, programmes for removal of poverty, eradication of diseases, spread of education and easy availability of basic needs. Though India is one among the major nuclear powers in the world, it is only for civil use and development, not for armed or nuclear race. The ultimate goal is comprehensive and complete disarmament of all forms of nuclear, chemical and conventional weapons. India established Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace,Disarmament and Development to recognize the persons, who work for the promotion of disarmament and peace in the world.
