He would always ask his neighbour why they needed a wall between their houses and his neighbour would always reply ‘Good fences make good neighbours’. But the poet is of the opinion if there are good neighbours then why is there a need for a good fence. He wonders if he could put this notion in his neighbours mind that ‘Why do they make good neighbours if they are not friendly and build a wall to keep away their neighbours.
