Figures(a) and (b) refer to the steady flow of a (nonviscous) liquid. Which of the two figures is incorrect? Why? |

Answer» Figure (a) is incorrect. From the equation of continuity AV = constant. Thus, when the area of constriction is narrow, velocity of streamline is high. If the velocity is high, we can say that the pressure head is low at that point (from Bernoulli’s equation). Correspondingly the height of the liquid column should be lesser at the narrow construction than that of the wide construction. Hence figure (a) is incorrect. |
