\(x\)2 - 5\(x\) + 6 = \(x\)2 - 2\(x\) - 3\(x\) + 6

= \(x\) (\(x\) –2) – 3 (\(x\) – 2) = (\(x\) –2) (\(x\) –3)

x2 – 9 = (\(x\) –3) (\(x\) + 3) 

∴ HCF of (\(x\)2 – 5\(x\) + 6) and (\(x\)2 – 9) = \(x\) – 3
