Let O be the origin Centre of mass of top horizontal rectangular plate of mass 16 m will be at its centre i.e.(0,-1) And centre of mass of vertical rectangular plate of mass 12m will be at (0,-5) So effective centre of mass of both the plates will be at (0,y) To determine y we have to use {16m x (-1) + 12m x (-5)}/ (16m +12m) Cancelling m, we get y = (-16-60) / 28 = -76/28 = -2.714 m Hence the centre of mass will be at (0,-2.71)
