Find the roots of quadratic equation 2x2 + x - 6 = 0

Answer»

We write, x = 4x - 3x as 2x² x (-6) = - 12x² = 4x x (-3x)

∴ 2x² + x - 6 = 0

⇒ 2x²+ 4x - 3x - 6 = 0

⇒ 2x(x + 2) - 3(x + 2) = 0

⇒ (x + 2) (2x - 3) = 0

⇒ x + 2 = 0 or 2x - 3 = 0

⇒ x = - 2 or x = 3/2

Hence, the roots of the given equation are - 2 and 3/2.
