1.

Find the value of x so that (–2)3 × (–2)–6 = (–2)2x–1.

Answer»

From the laws of exponents , we know that,

am × an = a(m+n)

So , we have , (–2)3 × (–2)–6

=(-2)(3)+(-6)

= (-2)(-3)

Now , we have , (-2)(-3) = (-2)(2x-1)

On comparing both the sides , we get

-3 = 2x-1

2x = -3 + 1

2x = -2

x = -2/2 = -1

∴ x = -1
