● They are aquatic, mostly marine, sessile or free swimming, radially symmetrical animals.

● The name cnidaria is derived from the cnidoblast or cnidocyte present on the tentacles of the body.

● Cnidoblast are used for anchorage, defence and for the capture of prey


● Cnidarians exhibit tissue level of organisations and are diploblastic.

● They have CENTRAL gastro vascular cavity with SINGLE opening.

● Some of the cindarians exhibit 2 basic bodies forms called polyp and medusa

● The former is a sessile and cylindrical form like hydra, adamsia etc.

● example - physalia , adamsia, pennatula and meandriana...
