1.	Give a reason why water is considered a universal solvent.
Answer» Water is a polar covalent compound. When it comes in contact with any substance it breaks the electrostatic forces holding the molecules of that substance. Thus, the molecules break loose from the substance and hence dissolve in water. Thus, water is called a universal solvent and an alkali is not.
