It was an excellent arrangement in which the dirty water and garbage / wastage were drained through the small pipes to big pipes and then through the main gutter outside the town. The arrangement was such that the garbage / wastage settled inside the hole at the bottom and the dirty water passed over it. There were covers provided over the gutters at certain distance, which could be removed for cleaning the gutters.
