Answer» (i) Add a few drops of blue litmus separately to the solutions of both the compounds taken in two test tubes. The solution which changes the colour of blue litmus to red is that of phenol. The solution which does not bring about any colour change is that of cyclohexanol. (ii) Treat both the solutions separately with Lucas reagent which is a mixture of `HCl (g)` and anhydrous `ZnCl_(2)`. The compound that gives white fumes after sometime is propan-2-ol while the other is benzyl alcohol |
