Examples of acids include the inorganic substances known as the mineral acids—sulfuric, nitric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids—and the organiccompoundsbelonging to thecarboxylic acid,sulfonic acid, andphenolgroups. Such substances contain one or more hydrogenatomsthat, in solution, are released as positively charged hydrogen ions (seeArrhenius theory).</p> | |
