Give reason for the following: (i) Aldehydes are more reactive than ketones towards nucleophilic reagents. (ii) Carboxylic acid do not give the characteristic reactions of carbonyl group(iii) The boiling point of carboxylic acids are greater than that of aldehydes, ketone and even alcohols of comparable molecular masses.

(i) Aldehydes are more reactive than ketone due to less steric effect. In ketones two bulkier alkyl group hinder the approach of nucleophile to the carbonyl atom. 

(ii) The carboxylic carbon is less electrophilic than carbonyl carbon because of resonance stabilised structure. 

(iii) This is due to more extensive association of carboxylic acid molecules through intermolecular H-bonding. Most of the carboxylic acid exists as dimer in vapour phase.
