Give reasons for the following : a. `Snl_4` is orange in colur . b. Solid ice is known as dry ice . c. Diamond is inert , wheresas gfraphite is not . d. Nitrolim acts as a good nitrogenous fertiliser .

Answer» a. `Snl_4` absorbs bleu light and reflects high proportion of orange or red . The ergy avbsorbed in this way causes he transfer of an electron from `I` to `Sn` which correspond to the temporary oxidation of `Sn (IV)` to `Sn(III)`. Sice transferring an electron to another atom is same as transferring a charge charge transfer complex is formed and due to whcih `Snl_4` is roange in colou.
b. Solid ice at `1` atm pressure sublimes i.e., changes form slid state to gaseou sate without liquefying . As a result , solid ice does not wet the surface and is known as dry ice .
c. In diamojnd each `C` atom si `sp^3` hybrdised and a C-atom si terahedrally bonded to foru other c-atoms whcih emans there is no unpaired electron left in the struture of diamond . Hence it is incer , whereas in graphite `C` is `sp^2` hyvbrised and ther si one upared eelctron on each `C` atom which is free and hence due to availabiluty of unpaired electrons grahite is reactive .
d. Nitrolim is `CaNCN` , i.e., calcium, into calcium carbonate and cyanamide .

Ammonia `(NH_3)` is converted into intrates by nitrifying vacterica . On account of its show conversion into intrates and `NH_3`, nitrolim or `CaNCN` acts as a goode nitrogenous fertiliser.
