Answer» The reaction temperature is maintained below 200°C. This is because at higher temperatures, HNO₃decomposes to give NO₂. The brown coloured NO₂ dissolves in HNO₃ to give it a yellow colour. Thus, if the temperature is allowed to go beyond 200°C, the product (HNO₃) obtained is not pure (colourless).
