Answer» Solution :(i) The motion is to and fro and periodic. (ii) The particle is under a restoring force proportional to the displacement from equilibrium position and always directed towards the equilibrium position. (iii) Velocity of the particle when its displacement is x is `V = omegasqrt(a^2-x^2)` . THUS velocity is MAXIMUM at the equilibrium position and zero at the extreme position. (iv) Acceleration of the particle is `a = - omega^2x`. Acceleration is maximum acceleration is maximum at the extreme position and zero at the equilibrium position. (v) At the equilibrium position the K.E. is maximum, P.E. is zero. At the extreme position, the K.E. is zero, P.E. is maximum, but the TOTAL energy is always a constant equal to `1//2 ka^2`where k is the force constant and .a. is the AMPLITUDE. |
